CANNONS WIN THREE IN A ROW

A depleted Cannons team produced a superb display of teamwork, hustle and defiance in order to overturn an 11 point third quarter deficit to win by 11 points, in their last outing against a strong Braintree Blue Devils side.

The first half was definitely one in which both coaches would have been extremely happy with their sides defensive efforts. Rhys Tight, Daniel Hammett and Nick Moodey producing a handful of blocks and steals between them were the highlights for the young Cannons team. There was also time for Riley Taylor to knock down a couple of vital three-pointers to ensure Cannons remained neck-and-neck with the Blue Devils at half time.

However, in the second half it was the 'old heads' that managed to pull the team onto victory, with their experience and drive it helped everyone to keep up the energy levels required. Player/Coach Chris Tight didn't play too many minutes, but when he was on court the 48 year old steadied the ship brilliantly; assisting for fun and allowing Cannons to transition smoothly from defence to offence. Paul Taylor demands high standards from himself and all around him, and that is vital in close games. The commitment to the cause he showed was great to see, he also chipped in with a couple of well earned baskets on the break. It was also a big game for Cannons leading scorer this season, Daniel Tight put up another 20 points, made two blocks and a grabbed a hatful of rebounds to allow Cannons to remain with their opponents throughout the game.

Another game where every player scored; including Billy Price who could well miss the rest of the campaign due to a scheduled surgery. "It was a great moment when Bill scored his free-throw and the whole team bench and fans jumped to their feet in happiness", said Coach Chris Tight "We going to miss him, he's been big for us so far this season" added court captain Daniel Tight.

Cannons would like to thank the fans that always turn up for them at the Clacton Leisure Centre. Cannons are without a doubt the best supported team in the league!

This win sees Cannons early season home form continue, they have now registered three home victories on the bounce in the Suffolk Senior League. Another couple of records broken as this is the first time Cannons have won three home games in a row in their history, it is also their best ever start to a SSL season.
